“Tox” is short for toxic. So when we talk about having a low-tox home, what we’re really talking about is reducing the amount of toxic chemicals and substances in our homes. Exposure to toxins has been linked to all sorts of health problems

  • cancer
  • fertility
  • developmental problems in children
  • sleep disorders
  • skin issues
  • respiratory issues.

Here’s a System to Have a Low-Tox Home:

  1. Choose natural cleaning products.
There are lots of great natural cleaning products on the market these days. Or you could make your own! DIY recipes for natural cleaning products are easy to find online. Just a few simple ingredients, like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils, can go a long way towards making your home sparkle—without all the toxic chemicals.
  2. Get rid of scented candles and air fresheners.
Scented candles and air fresheners might make your home smell nice, but they’re also pumping out harmful chemicals into the air. If you want your home to smell fresh, try using essential oils instead. De-tox your home using diffusers specifically designed for essential oils. (I can show you how to get the very best at wholesale.)
  3. Avoid conventional personal care products.
Many conventional personal care products (think shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.) contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin. When choosing personal care products, look for ones that are certified organic and free of synthetic fragrances and other harmful ingredients. You can find some great options at your local health food store or online.
  4. Be careful with pesticides.
Pesticides are designed to kill things—and that includes humans! If you must use pesticides in your home (for example, if you have an ant problem), choose ones that are made from natural ingredients and follow the directions carefully. Remember that less is always more when it comes to pesticides—so try other methods of pest control first, like sealing up cracks and crevices where pests might enter your home.
  5. Filter your water.
Most tap water contains traces of harmful chemicals like chlorine and fluoride. To reduce your exposure to these toxins, filter your water with a high-quality filter before drinking it or using it for cooking. This is especially important if you have young children, as their bodies are more vulnerable to the effects of toxins than adults’ bodies are.

A De-Toxed home is important for our health—especially the health of our children.

Luckily, there are lots of easy ways to do it! Let me know which strategies you plan to use.
